No one was surprised to hear ABC less than enthusiastic on Inhumans’ renewal prospects, but there’s always an argument to be made for a second chance. Following another apparent nail in the coffin, fans of the royal Marvel drama have already collected a few thousand signatures for an ABC renewal.

It was only a few weeks ago that ABC denied any official cancellation for the Marvel drama, pushing the decision until May Upfront presentations despite “disappointing” ratings and reviews. SpoilerTV subsequently pointed toward a potential omen for The Inhumans’ one-and-done demise, as ABC reportedly eliminated that section of their press site. As of January 23, the page appears to have been restored.

All the same, that old bastion of integrity Change.org has since been blessed with a petition to renew The Inhumans for Season 2, albeit with a replacement showrunner for Iron Fist alum Scott Buck (no argument there). As of publishing, the petition has a modest 2400+ signatures, while the author notes that rushed production and a limited budget were more to blame than its cast:

The show had a decent story while every actor involved gave the best he or she could. Their performances are noteworthy and every problem about which the people complained was eventually solved or was a major plot point by the finale (Maximus’ pure intentions were later revealed to be for his own, the monarch system’s flaws were also acknowledged and so on).

In the petition’s defense – it is worth conceding how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. grew beyond its first season flaws to a much more well-rounded drama, and it’s likely Marvel will cool on additional MCU appearances for The Inhumans now that mutants are on the way. ABC isn’t likely to be swayed by a few thousand signatures (the series itself averaged 4.1 million viewers), but who can resist the chance to show boundless fan support online?

We’ll likely hear further Inhumans updates as we get closer to spring, so stay tuned.
