After a fifth consecutive week at the top of the scoreboard, expectations certainly ran high for Jennifer Nettles and protege J Rome to deliver another flawless performance during Week 6 of the ‘Duets‘ competition. Did the clear frontrunner of the series step it up during the first live episode of the season with a performance of ‘Without You’ by R&B superstar Usher and famed DJ David Guetta?

“That was one of your weaker performances,” said mentor John Legend. Even with the minor criticism, the R&B singer ended his critique with praise. “As usual, you delivered such a professional performance,” added Legend.

Much like his comments following Nettles’ performance with John Glosson, Robin Thicke poked fun at the mother-to-be. “I love J Rome, but my favorite part of the performance was watching Jennifer drop it like it’s hot,” said Thicke, commenting on the pregnant Sugarland leading lady’s impressive flexibility on stage.

“You are so ridiculous,” Kelly Clarkson gushed following the performance. The Texas native playfully threw her bright pink high heel toward the young singer while on stage, after threatening to do so following J Rome’s stellar performance of ‘I Will Always Love You’ last week. “I can’t wait to come to your concerts one day,” said the ‘Mr. Know It All’ singer.

With his impressive showing throughout the entire season of the series, the young singer attributes much of his success to his celebrity mentor. “She believed in me when I feel like no one else did,” J Rome admitted just before taking the stage.

Fans will have to wait until next week to find out of J Rome topped the leader board for the sixth consecutive week. Starting this week, the viewing audience is encouraged to vote for their favorites, with the contestant who received the least amount of votes sent home at the beginning of next week’s episode.
