Contestants on Wednesday night’s episode of ‘Duets’ were tasked with singing songs from the movies. John Glosson and Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles kicked off the show with a inspirational performance of Celine Dion‘s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ that left the other three judges speechless.

Glosson and Nettles have great chemistry, and it showed during rehearsal when the two were cutting up like lifelong friends. Their goal was to impress Robin Thicke — something Glosson struggled to do last week — and to make the song an original.

“We’re not trying to recreate the movie here, we’re trying to capture the emotional integrity of the song,” Nettles said just before the performance began. The two singers began on opposite ends of the stage, with a full string section and a pianist playing from beneath the smokey veil at their backs. At times the violinist was a third vocalist, not that they needed it. Their two voices blended into one. Thicke said the performance was passionate.

“That song right there, it looked y’all have been singing together for 10 years,” he said. The other coaches struggled to find unique ways to praise the Georgia native and since he went first he moved to the top of the scoreboard. It remains to be seen if he’ll stay out of danger this week, to get to the live rounds next week.
