Former astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn died late last year, but his burial at Arlington National Cemetery took place on Thursday.

The reason for the delay is amazing. Glenn, who was the first American to orbit the planet led quite an incredible public life, but his private life is something we can all dream about.

Though Glenn died in December, his family asked that his burial at Arlington be delayed until April 6th, which would have been the 74th anniversary of his marriage to his high school sweetheart Annie.

As the Mom of two Marines, this ceremonial event has me in tears.

Annie met the future Marine pilot as a youngster in Ohio and they were best buddies until they later started dating and eventually married.
Reports indicate Annie had a stutter when she was a child, but Glenn never teased her about it.

John Glenn is survived by Annie, the love of his life and two children.
