John Malkovich Helped Save a Man’s Life

We all know it’s pretty awesome being John Malkovich, but this weekend it got pretty heroic, too, after he saved a man bleeding to death on a Toronto street.

According to the CBC, Jim Walpole and his wife were returning from dinner when he tripped, slashing his throat on some scaffolding.

Meanwhile, Malkovich — in town starring in a stage production of ‘The Giacomo Variations’ —  was smoking a cigarette not far off when he heard cries for help and lept into action, quelling the man’s bleeding with his scarf until paramedics could reach the scene.

“The way he was spurting I thought it was the carotid [artery] or the jugular [vein],” said the victim’s wife Marilyn, a retired nurse.

While they waited, Jim asked the name of his impromptu aid-giver, saying, “I asked, ‘What’s your name?’ He said, ‘John.’ And I didn’t ask the last name because I didn’t figure I’d remember it anyhow.”

After the paramedics arrived, Walpole says he thanked Malkovich: “We couldn’t shake hands, I was covered in blood. He was just off, didn’t want any attention. He’s a gentleman and a compassionate person.”

“Believe me, I’m going to be watching all of [his films] now,” the man told ABC News.

So apparently John Malkovich is Toronto’s dark knight. Injured people? You’re good. Criminals? Watch out.
