As one news report put it: "To make the team the kid had to be livin' on a prayer!" Well, that not so subtle song quote refers to the fact that the son of Hall of Fame rocker Jon Bon Jovi has made the Notre Dame football squad...as a freshman walk on.

18 year old Jesse Bongiovi was an outstanding defensive back at Poly Prep High School in Brooklyn, New York. So good, in fact, that a number of scholarship offers came his way. But since he was a boy Jesse dreamed of playing ball for the Fighting Irish. So upon arriving in South Bend the 5 foot 9, 183 pound youngster tried out for the team as a non-scholarship player and made the squad, being one of a select few chosen.

“Jesse has earned his spot,” said Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. “He’s a tough kid. The team doen't look at him as a rock star’s son. They look at him as a kid that loves Notre Dame football and wants to help this team.”
