Just two hours into the ‘Duets‘ series, and trends are forming. For Kelly Clarkson, that means choosing duet partners that are tall on talent, but a little short on confidence. Much like Jason Farol earlier, Jordan Meredith was trembling when she first joined the pop superstar. Her performance of ‘Stronger’ was anything but lacking in swagger, however.

Judge Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland praised Meredith for taking on such a difficult song to sing. All three critiquing judges agreed that it was impossible to tell the two women apart at times, which John Legend said was a huge compliment to the hot pink-haired singer. Her platform shoes and biker tattoo definitely made her a contestant that stood out.

Despite all the praise, Meredith joined Farol in the bottom two of the eight singers. Each judge gets to score each other’s singers, meaning Clarkson was consistently giving the highest grades of the night. She looked genuinely irritated as the episode wrapped up and Host Quddus gave viewers instructions on how to see more from each singer.

“That’s a little suspect,” Clarkson said forcing a smile as she welcomed Meredith to the white couch behind her. The ‘Family Feud’ style scoreboard is the ‘Duets’ trademark, as important as the spinning red chair on ‘The Voice.’ Much like ‘The Voice,’ this reality show is thick with positivity. Not a single criticism was uttered all night long.
