Katy Perry has another honor to add to her collection. The ‘California Gurl’ was named Artist of the Year at last night’s Narm Music Business Association Awards dinner party at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in L.A.

NARM President Jim Donio presented Perry with the trophy. He said, “Katy‘s music was absolutely everywhere over the past year, and her dominance of the singles charts is a nearly unprecedented accomplishment. She has unquestionably blossomed into a true global superstar and has earned this Award in every sense of the word.”

Perry made a fashion statement on the red carpet, in a black gown with sheer panels, dark lipstick, bright purple hair and studded heels — a much different look from the pastel colors she sported on ‘Teenage Dream.’ The new look is in line with Perry’s recent statement that her next album will be “f—ing dark.”

Perry tied Michael Jackson‘s record with five No. 1 singles from her ‘Teenage Dream’ album and earned a sixth No. 1 with ‘Part of Me’ from the re-issued album ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.’ Her next single, ‘Wide Awake,’ will officially drop on May 29.

Lionel Richie was also in attendance to receive the Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement.
