When three dozen children in New York boarded their bus after school, they had no idea how their lives could have possibly changed that day...forever! What a nightmare!

Bus Driver, Martha Thompson, was drunk and driving recklessly, at times exceeding speeds of 70 miles per hour. At one point she hit a mailbox and rolled into a ditch.

Despite the screams from the children on the bus, Thompson continued to drive. It wasn't until two girls, Grace Scherzer and Chelsey Pierce (then 15 and 16 years old) convinced Thompson to finally stop the bus. The older girls also continued to provide comfort to all of the younger children on board the bus.

Thompson's blood alcohol content was later tested at .15 percent, which is twice the legal limit for drivers in New York. She later plead guilty to driving while intoxicated and received the following punishment: twelve weekends in jail, six months electronic home monitoring, five years of probation and alcohol counseling, and a $1000 fine.

What do you think of Thompson's punishment? Was it severe enough? Was punishment what she deserved?
