Local 4th- and 8th-graders need your help getting ready for LEAP testing in April.

Volunteers of America of North Louisiana is looking for tutors to assist students with reviewing the skills needed for the test. It only takes two hours a week and it'll make a huge difference.

Tutoring begins February 17 and is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays until April 30. There will be no tutoring during the first week of testing March 16-20 or Spring Break week April 6-10. You can volunteer at one of the following locations:

Lakeshore Middle School - 1807 San Jacinto Avenue - 3 to 4 p.m. - 8th-grade students

Forest Hill Elementary - 2005 Francais Dr. - 3:30-4:30 p.m. - 4th-grade students

Downtown LightHouse - 802 Travis Street - any time between 4 and 5:30 p.m. - 4th- and 8th-grade students

Because of the testing format this year and the recent change in school curriculum, VOA is asking all interested tutors to attend a one-hour LEAP tutoring training session on Thursday, February 12, at either noon or 5:15 p.m. at the Highland Center on Olive Street.

If you're interested, contact Tricia Jowell at Tricia.Jowell@voanorthla.org or call 318-221-2669.
