Shreveport Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Robert Jackson has died.

Though I haven't seen Dr. Jackson for many years, he made such a positive impression on this young Mom. I haven't told this story before, but my youngest son had a heart murmur when he was born. Our pediatrician set up an appointment with Dr. Jackson.

When you're a young Mom, the last thing you want to hear is that something is wrong with your baby. But my dealings with Dr. Jackson helped ease my worry and he was so kind and gentle with my baby.

I remember those visits like it was yesterday. My son would get wires connected to his little chest twice a year. Doc would read the charts and come explain the results to me. He would play with my son and pay close attention to my concern.

As frightening as it was for me, Dr. Jackson would always reassure me that he would probably outgrow this and it would not hamper my son's daily activity in any way. It never did and now my son is a United States Marine. Heart murmur is gone.

Dr. Jackson was loved by so many.

Interim Chancellor Dr. G. E. Ghali issued the following statement:

Dr. Jackson was beloved by his fellow faculty, staff and patients. Along with his colleague Dr. Ernest Kiel, Dr. Jackson bought and gave out more than 10,000 toys to young patients over the last decade as a way to bring some fun into an otherwise scary situation for kids. This is just one example of his compassion and dedication.

Our condolences go out to his family and all who were among his close circle of associates, former students, colleagues and friends.

My son does not remember these visits, but this Mom does. Thanks Dr. Jackson for your kind and gentle nature for your thousands of patients. Rest in Gods peace.
