The success of Louisiana Film Prize has expanded to the Volunteer State.

We're so spoiled here in Shreveport-Bossier. We've had the luxury of Louisiana Film Prize in our backyard for five years. Now, it's getting even bigger. Louisiana film prize has established another festival in Memphis!

Memphis Film Prize, brought to you by the same people who gave us LA Film Prize will kick off its festival this summer.

The process is the same. Filmmakers will shoot a short film in Memphis' Shelby County in the hopes of winning the $10,000 grand prize. The top 10 finalists will receive a $250 stipend and will compete in the festival that will take place August 12-14. After that, the grand prize winner will have an allocated spot in Louisiana Film Prize.

Which means 21 finalists will compete in Shreveport, instead of the previous 20.

It's just one of the many new and exciting announcements that have come out of LAFP. First, as announced at the kickoff in January, filmmakers will now be able to film in Natchitoches. There are plenty of locations to use in this new filming zone. Louisiana Film Prize takes place September 30 through October 2.

I'm thinking I will need to take a trip to Memphis this August.
