Just when you think you can't stand to hear another word about the state budget crisis here in Louisiana, we get some good news. According to Wallethub, Louisiana has the third lowest property taxes in the country... for now!

The annual taxes on a home worth $176,000 in Louisiana are $841, but with the average home value in Louisiana sitting at $140,400, most people in Louisiana pay around $672 annually.

I'll be honest, we escrow for our property taxes so I don't think about them too much. Yes, we're paying property tax, but the mortgage company is the one actually writing the check. Add the fact that Louisiana doesn't have an annual vehicle tax and we're not as bad off as one might think.

With our state sales tax going up $.01 starting April 1st (ironic, anyone?) people are super focused on taxes. With that being said, it's good to know we have a history of keeping property taxes at a 'reasonable' level in Louisiana. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling a little better about our sales tax increase after seeing these numbers. Let's pray no one gets the bright idea to hit us in the wallet yet again!
