How generous are Louisiana residents? We are near the bottom of the list.

With 30 percent of annual giving taking place in December and the U.S. co-leading the world with charitable contributions this year, the leading personal finance social network WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2014’s Most & Least Charitable States.

In the spirit of inspiring more Americans to increase their charitable giving this holiday season, The WalletHub full report shined the spotlight on the most generous of the 50 states. We did so by analyzing eight key metrics such as volunteer rate, the percentage of taxpayers who donated to charity and growth in charitable giving.

Generosity in Louisiana (1=Biggest; 25=Avg.)

  • 50th – Volunteer Rate
  • 34th – % of Population Who Claim to Have Donated Time
  • 46th – % of Population Who Claim to Have Donated Money
  • 44th – % of Taxpayers Who Donated to Charity
  • 20th – Growth in Charitable Giving (2012 vs. 2006)
  • 45th – Number of Charities per Capita

Here are the top five most generous states:

Utah, South Dakota, Idaho, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Nevada is the least generous state.
