Louisiana has joined 11 other states as part of a lawsuit against the Obama administration challenging its order to allow transgender students in schools across America to use the restroom and locker of choice.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry has encouraged schools across the state to ignore the directive from the Departments of Justice and Education. He, and others, have termed the move another example of unconstitutional overreach.

In a press release Wednesday Landry stated:

“For too long, the federal government has directed education policy to the detriment of Louisiana’s students. The recent Obama directive regarding transgender students puts the safety and security of all our children in jeopardy and will cost the state of Louisiana hundreds of millions of dollars in compliance costs.”

The other states in the lawsuit are Texas, Alabama, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Tennessee, Arizona, Maine, Oklahoma, Utah and Georgia.
