For the fourth year in a row Louisiana has set a new record for tourism, welcoming almost 29 million visitors who spent over 11 billion dollars. That's a 3% increase from last year and a much needed shot in the arm for a state that is currently staring at a  $750 million dollar deficit, says Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. "With the economy and the oil industry not doing very well in Louisiana, there's no better time than now to let tourism fill that gap.", said Nungesser, adding, "Last year we generated $843 million in taxes that you and I didn't have to pay, and that's a 38 to 1 return on the money we invested."

Nungesser said we need to do whatever it takes to keep those numbers up because they mean good things down the road for the people of Louisiana. "Keeping things in the best shape, our state parks, museums. Making sure the cities around the state do their part in keeping them clean, fixing the streets, and putting our best foot forward.", are all vital in keeping visitors flocking to the Bayou State.
