It was a great weekend for college baseball in Louisiana. Not only did Mother Nature cooperate by offering up some dandy mid-February weather but both of Louisiana's nationally ranked college baseball programs powered their way through weekend series sweeps.

In Lafayette the 13th ranked U.L. Ragin Cajuns swept a three game set with Sam Houston State. In Baton Rouge the 5th ranked LSU Baseball Tigers showed once again that they are going to be a force in NCAA Baseball again this year.

In the first game Friday the fifth ranked Tigers needed extra innings to down the Bearcats by a score of 6-5. It was a walk off single by Jordan Romero in the bottom of the 12th that lifted the Tigers to the win.

Game two on Saturday was more about pitching than hitting. While LSU did post four runs to claim the victory. The LSU pitching staff combined to hold the Bearcats to just four hits and no runs.

Sunday was the exclamation point as the Tigers powered passed Cincinnati by a score of 12-4. This was the first indication of the kind of power that LSU will be bringing to the plate this year. The game was busted open in the bottom of the 5th inning when Bryce Adams sent a grand slam home run into the stands.  Tiger batters also went deep back to back in the bottom of the 6th inning.

The Tigers' next action will be Wednesday night when they travel to Beaumont Texas to take on Lamar. The next weekend series will be at home in Baton Rouge when Sacrament State comes to town for a three game set.
