"It's not a typical day at the bank," says Prosperity Bank's Kari Lewis as bank customer Ira Keys brings in more than 500 pounds of pennies. Ira has been collecting pennies since he was 17 years old and hasn't spent a single penny in 63 years.

Beginning in 1952, the 81-year-old resident from Slaton, Texas, began collecting pennies because of some advice his father gave him -- "Whatever you do son, save your money," he said.

Since hearing those words that's exactly what Ira's been doing.

Kari Lewis said, "We take pennies for granted. You see them on the ground and you're kind of like, 'Oh, I'm not picking that up,' but for him to collect it for years and years was pretty amazing."

After all the coins were ran through the coin sorting machine (which got a workout), Ira ended up with $816 in pennies and already has plans on spending it, but says he'll continue holding on to his piggy bank and making sure it remains full!
