You probably know that Louisiana's state flower is the Magnolia and that the state bird is the Pelican. But did you know that Louisiana has a state dog?

Meet the Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, Louisiana's state dog.

This breed is believed to be the first breed developed in North America. Louisiana was lucky enough to snag this awesome dog as one of only eleven states that even have a state dog. In fact, Louisiana was one of the first states to name a state dog all the way back in 1979!

The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog also goes by other names, including Catahoula Hound, Catahoula Leopard Hound, Catahoula Cur, Leopard Cur and Catahoula Hog Dog. It's name comes from Catahoula Parish.

One of the Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog's most striking features is its eyes, which can be ice blue, brown, green, gray, or amber.
