The Chamberlain family founded the Down Home Meats, Inc. in 1982 with its home located in Stonewall, Louisiana. The idea was to produce an old fashion hickory smoked sausage. Using “top quality” pure pork and the freshest ingredients, the hardwood hickory, slow smoked, old fashion, fully cooked, ready-to-eat sausage (with no fillers) was developed. All sausage products are stuffed and hung for smoking by hand, “THE OLD FASHION WAY.”

The sausage quickly became a favorite with local and regional customers. Since production began, sales have shown a steady increase yearly. In 2005, to meet the growing demands, a new 12,000 sq ft, USDA “state-of-the-art” facility was constructed.  The new a

nd larger operations enabled Down Home Meats Inc., to add addition sausage flavors that now include the Original Hot, Green Onion, and Jalapeno. In the new future other hickory smoked meat items will be added to the line of products and placed on the website. They will include hams (bone in and boneless) rind on, thick sliced bacon, and tenderloins (plain or peppered). They pride themselves in producing the very best “old fashion hickory smoked products.”  In 2006 they were very pleased to have their line of products featured on the Food Network Show “BBQ America, with Rick Browne.”
