Many local and area events are going on to honor our fallen heroes.
Today, Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover addressed the Annual Memorial Day salute to Veterans program at Paradise Baptist Church on Hollywood Avenue.

The 35th Annual Memorial Day service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Haughton gets underway at 9 am Monday.
Representatives of area veterans and fraternal organizations and active duty, guard and reserve units as well as area junior R-O-T-C's will lay wreaths.
The guest speaker is retired Air Force Major and pilot Carroll Michaud. The Veterans of Foreign Wars 12th District Honor Guard will conduct a triple-volley rifle salute and the playing of taps will close the service.
The Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery near Keithville will have guest speaker Charles "Hondo" Campbell. He was a four-star general, who when he retired, became the last serving full-rank general having served in combat in the Vietnam War.
The traditional close of local activities being a "casting the wreath upon the waters" observance by Fleet Reserve Association Branch 98 at 2 pm at the American Legion Lowe-McFarlane Post 14, on South Lake Shore Drive, on the south shore of Cross Lake. The service will also include the tolling of bells and the reading of the names of lost shipmates.
The 16th Masonic District Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, and the 16th District Esther Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star's Second Annual Observance.
It takes place at 11 o'clock at Union Mason Hall on Hearne Avenue.
The Disabled American Veterans and Louisiana Disabled Veterans will hold a traditional service at 9:30 Wednesday in the veterans section of Greenwood Cemetery on Stoner Avenue.

That service will include the laying of wreaths and honors for the servicemen and woman buried there.
