Sad news for LSU Tiger fans. It has just been announced that Mike the Tiger VI, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

According to wafb.com, Mike VI has been diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma.

"Biopsy analysis led to a diagnosis of spindle cell sarcoma, which is a malignant tumor derived from fibrous connective tissues of the bone," the release stated. "This is an extremely rare form of cancer, but this type of cancer is unlikely to spread to other areas of the body."

A tumor was found in his face near his nose, after student doctors noticed a swelling on the mascot's face.

Wafb says that treatment plan will consist of radiation therapy or "Stereotactic radiotherapy" (SRT), which delivers radiation to the tumor in a highly focused manner, sparing the surrounding healthy tissue.

Mike the Tiger VI is 10 years old.
