After one round of improvements at a park in Haughton, another big project is coming soon.

It's officially known as the War and Space Veterans Memorial Park, but residents along U.S. Hwy. 80 east in Haughton call it Tall Timbers Park. So far, a new bathroom facility and another shade structure to protect children who use the playground equipment have already been installed.

Beginning the morning of Monday, August 1, work will begin on the park's playing field. It'll be stripped and leveled and new grass seed will be spread.

"We're going to have to close the playing field while we do the work," said Bossier Parish Police Jury Parks and Recreation Department Director Warren Saucier. "We're sorry for the temporary inconvenience, but I'm sure the people who utilize that field will be pleased with what we're planning."

The work is expected to be finished by August 8, but Saucier said a new coat of grass may take a little longer to cover the field.

"It will probably take a couple of weeks for the grass to take hold," he said. "We are aware that youth football teams use that field to practice, but the new grass will be worth the wait."
