A school bus

In Louisiana currently, cars on residential streets and other one lane roads have long been required to stop when they see a school bus stopped in the oncoming lane to load or unload children. The wider, more standard, two-lanes-in-each-direction streets that were designed to carry more traffic and that have a  a continuous left turn lane/Ultimate Game Of Chicken Simulator separating the opposing two lane traffic, are NOT required to stop when a school bus does, however.  So, the first two lanes of the 'no blinkers, not ever' crowd and the oncoming riot of 'my OTHER  brake light is ALSO badly applied red construction paper' subset of drivers,  are oftentimes confused . Legally, the state sees the north bound lane and the south bound lane as two separate roads. A road divided. That's all about to change in a hurry.

The House Transportation Committee gave the thumbs up on a bill that would make both oncoming lanes of traffic stop when a school bus in the opposing two lanes is stopped with lights flashing a the warning rail out.   And  man, those cats green-lighted the bill as soon as they realized that here was something, almost like a gift from the gods, that  made them look like staunch defenders of the young, that even after it became law, no one was gonna be offended no matter which lane you were in, EVER!  AND also that this bill refreshingly held nothing within that might possibly  be even a teensy weensy bit abrasive to our states graying, chunky, but certainly dignified  strippers. Ill bet its standing room only when the TV cameras show up to herald this bill's arrival.

And please pray for our cross guards, policeman, deputies, and troopers who will undoubtedly spend the entire next school year patiently saying things like "Yes sir, even this lane waaaaay over here." And, "Well, now the next time you see all the warning signs and yellow and red paint and cross walk guards and children and big yellow school buses lit up like a spaceship and other drivers flipping you off...... you'll remember."
