A New York City police officer has been killed in the line of duty. Randolph Holder was shot in the head while exchanging fire with suspects in East Harlem on Tuesday night. The shooting suspect and three other people are in police custody. Pat Lynch heads the largest union representing NYPD officers...and made an appeal to the public:

Before you lay your head down, please say a prayer, say a prayer that that family can get through the feeling of emptiness that they will always have. New York city police officers carry themselves like super heros on the street every day, but the reality is, when we're attacked, we bleed, and when we bleed we die and when we die,
we cry.

Holder is the fourth NYPD officer slain in the line of duty in the last eleven months. He was shot in the head while responding to a call.

Holder was a five year veteran of the force, and came from an immigrant family with three generations of police officers. NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio says the city stands with them.
