Can you imagine an American icon being "plucked" from your very own front yard? Albert Asendorf and Nancy Puchalski surely can.

The upstate New York couple were delighted Wednesday when the towering Norway Spruce in their front yard was chosen to rise above Rockefeller Center this holiday season. The giant tree stands 78-feet tall, is 47-feet in diameter and weighs 10-tons. The monstrosity had to be hoisted by a huge crane onto a 115-foot long trailer.

After being in their yard for fifty-eight years growing from fifteen feet, the fear of the evergreen toppling into their house made the decision to donate it easy.

“It’s going to be hard getting used to nothing being there,” said Puchalski, 61. “I’m sad to see it go. We’ve always had it here. (But) it’s going to be nice for the world to see it, see what we saw every day.”
