Shreveport Firefighters responded to a blaze at the Dollar General Store on Walker Road early this morning.

Here's the release from SFD:

Engine Company 17 arrived on scene first at 3:26 AM and reported a fire with heavy smoke showing from the Dollar General Store.  Extra companies responded due to the fire involving a large commercial building.  Firefighters attempted to make entry for an offensive attack but were pushed back from the heat produced from the heavy fire load inside.  Defensive operations were set up with large volume of water being placed on the fire from two ladder truck companies.  The fire was brought under control at 6:50 AM.

One firefighter was injured on the scene and treated at a local hospital for the minor injury.  The building suffered heavy fire damage; however, firefighters were able to save a business next door by preventing the fire from spreading.  The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
