President Barack Obama has issued a directive today that will allow transgender students to use bathrooms matching their gender identity.

This isn't sitting well with a lot of conservative lawmakers. In an Associated Press story, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick says his state "will not yield to blackmail."

The Bossier Parish School System has issued the following statement:

We have just received the Dear Colleague letter and are in the process of reviewing it. This is not only a Bossier Parish Schools issue, but one that affects every public school district in the United States. North Carolina is already in litigation over the issue and we expect that case will work its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. In the meantime, we will be consulting with the Bossier Parish School Board relative to this directive after additional information and guidance is attained from Board counsel. Until that time, it would be premature to comment further.

Caddo Public Schools has also issued a statement:

Caddo Parish School Board nor Caddo Parish Public Schools have yet received the letter referenced today by the Obama Administration. Both entities await receipt of such a letter to begin a thorough review of the information outlined. At this time, it is too early to comment regarding the contents of such a letter or actions which could be taken by the Caddo Parish School Board without more information.
