This has to be one of my very favorite fall events in our community. It's the annual Pumpkin Shine on Line, hosted by Southfield School and sponsored by SPAR-Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation.

If you don't know about it, you might want to check it out this year.  It happens at Betty Virginia Park on Line Avenue from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. It's set for Wednesday, October 24th. More than 1000 pumpkins will line the trail through the park.  Children, school classes, families and many others carve pumpkins in very unique ways.  Local school bands and choirs will provide entertainment for this great community event. There are prizes for the best jack-o-lanterns. Cash prizes will also be handed out to the three schools with the most jack-o-lantern entries. So make sure your youngsters school is participating. Parking at Betty Virginia is at a premium, so you might think about riding the free shuttle from Mall St. Vincent (Dillard’s lot).  The shuttle runs from 5-9 p.m.  The event helps fund beautification projects at Betty Virginia Park. If you would like to enter a pumpkin, bring it out to the park between 2-4 p.m on the day of the event. Get updates on Facebook.
