Louisiana Film Prize Festival is October 9 through 12. Here's a closer look at one of the Top 20 films, "The Out and Out's."
"The Out and Out's" is a drama written and directed by Travis Champagne. We asked Travis a few questions about his short film.
What is your film about?
A famous actor travels to Northwest Louisiana in the 1950s for work, and falls in love with a local girl. I wish I could give you more details on to what truly was my inspiration but it would give away too much.
What kind of message are you trying to get across in your film?
That history is meant to be re-written. But all jokes aside we wanted to just display passion and emotion. Take the audience on a ride that they will never forget. That they don't feel cheated in its simplicity, or its charm, that once they step out of the theaters it inspires them to create whatever form of art it is that they do.
Where in Northwest Louisiana did you film?
Downtown Shreveport. George's Diner. Downtown Airport. Gilliam, Louisiana.
What were you impressions about Northwest Louisiana, specifically the Shreveport-Bossier area?
It was our second time filming in the area, and we once again enjoyed it. Everyone was so welcoming, and so easy to get along with. It makes things a lot easier to deal with when people welcome our industry with open arms. The Film Prize is a big deal in Shreveport and we are happy to be a part of it.
Would you film in this area again?
Of course. It's already in the works.
$50,000 is on the line! What do you plan on doing with the money is you win?
Paying back my crew members who donated their time to me. Paying back our investors and producers. Re-invest the funds. Buy my wife something nice, and take her somewhere tropical.
Why should someone vote for your film?
Everyone deserves a second chance. But honestly I think the film will speak for itself and if it speaks to you by all means we would love support. If it doesn't we still love you anyway.
