The gloves are off in Baton Rouge and the governor and legislature and working to find ways to solve our state's budget crisis. Meanwhile, we're spending money like we've got it. Question. What has cost Louisiana over $1 million and three years worth of headaches? The answer will surprise you...

Here's the skinny on the situation. A federal judge ordered that air conditioning be provided to inmates at Angola on death row to protect them from Louisiana's dangerous heat and humidity. Instead, we've been fighting this order to the tune of $1,067,000 which stemmed from a 3-year-old lawsuit filed on behalf of three prisoners with medical problems.

Just so you know, a private firm has said it would cost roughly $225,000 to install air conditioning on the six tiers of death row. That cost does not include engineering fees or operating costs.

So what do you think? Are we wasting money fighting this order? Clearly we've spent more money on lawyers than the cost of installing A/C units. Do death row inmates have the right to climate control? Please share your thoughts below!
