Rat Crossing

Rat Crossing

Sure, you see deer crossing, school children crossing, even moose crossing, but rat crossing? Yep, it is happening in New York.

Keep in mind, the signs aren’t to protect the vermin, it is more of tongue-in-cheek awareness that there is a rat problem with this neighborhood. “Now it’s gotten to the point where people walk at night, and you’ll hear screams and shrieks because they get startled by the amount of rats that are running across the sidewalk,” said Joseph Bolanos, president of the West 76th Street Block Association.

The root of the problem, crappy trash cans. The rats are getting in them and feeding. When rats find food, they move in, stay and make more rats. So the association has raised money to get new trash cans that will keep the nasty critters out.
