Regis Philbin walks out over pay-cut proposal, according to TMZ.

Philbin unexpectedly announced his retirement on the air last week after a 30-year run to pursue "other opportunities."

TMZ reports the 79-year-old was in fact nudged toward the door by the ABC.

His abrupt retirement announcement was known by co-host Kelly Rippa only 15 minutes before show.
