Remembering Bossier City Staff Sgt Michael Garcia Killed 6 Years Ago in Afghanistan

As we celebrate the July 4th holiday, we must remember a local hero. Staff Sgt Michael Garcia of Bossier City died on the 4th of July in Logar Province, Afghanistan in 2011.

Garcia was wounded when insurgents attacked his unit. The 27 year old Garcia was assigned to the 63rd Ordinance Battalion based at Fort Polk.

Garcia, died just a month before his 28th birthday. He signed up for the Army right after graduation from Bossier High School. He served 10 years in the Army.

Garcia worked in explosive ordinance disposal. He served with the 705th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, which supported the 2/4 Infantry Battalion’s Task Force Warrior, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, out of Fort Polk, La.

Family members say Garcia was someone who could always make you laugh. He was also known for being thoughtful and remembering birthdays and arranging for gifts even while he was deployed.
