Happy 147th Anniversary to the Sweetheart. You know the candy that has cute Valentine's Day phrases like "Will You Be Mine"?

Just as any company that is around for 147 years, you would expect that they have made changes to stay current and stay in business. NECCO, the company that makes Sweethearts is no exception to this. When you consider they sell 4 million pounds of their sugar driven confection in the span of 6 weeks, you have to be on top of what is popular and hot (subsequently, ditching the old and tired)  However, what is interesting there are only 17 phrases that have been retired in their 147 year history.

  • DIG ME
  • HOT CHA
  • SAUCY BOY
  • GIRL POWER
  • OH YOU KID
  • WHY NOT
  • GROOVY
  • COOL DUDE
  • MY, SUCH EYES
  • FAX ME
  • HEP CAT
  • TELL ME HOW
  • YOU ARE LATE
  • 1-800 CUPID
  • [PEACE SYMBOL]
  • YEAH RIGHT
  • OH BOY
  • YOU ROCK
  • LET'S READ
  • YOU ARE GAY

But with this 17 year purge, you get to add some new ones like:

  • UR HOT
  • TEXT ME
  • LOML [that's: Love of My Life].

Are their phrases that didn't make it? Sure, but from what we found, the only one they will fess up to is "PUCKER UP", but because of a printing problem, the P looked too much like an F.
