Known as one half of Disney’s songwriting dream team The Sherman Brothers, Robert Sherman wrote such iconic and memorable tunes as ‘It’s a Small World’ and ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.’ The catchy songwriter passed away in London on Monday at the age of 86.

Sherman worked with his brother, Richard Sherman, as a songwriter for Disney. Together, they composed songs for classics like ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.’ The kinds of songs that made those movies what they are, bring smiles to faces every time and get stuck in your head without even trying.

In his career Sherman won two Academy Awards — Best Song for ‘Mary Poppins” ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee,’ as well as Best Music, for the same film. He also one Grammy Award and accumulated numerous nominations. He was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1976.

Not many details are known about his death. The songwriter was born in New York in 1925. In honor of this great tune-smith, we leave you with something to hum for the rest of the day.
