Roy King was fired yesterday as LSU band director after being put on administrative leave earlier this month. King's lawyer, Jill Craft, says the firing came in the form of a letter and that had  Mr. King not checked his mail yesterday, he would have found out on the news. In the letter LSU outlines its reasons for the firing, including failure to follow policies, procedures, and financial safeguards that protect the Tiger band and LSU.

Craft told reporters that among the allegations that led to the firing were charges of nepotism for having King's daughter receive an internship in the school of music, charges that King wrongfully gave out scholarships to members of the Golden Girls and Color Guard, and that King was being blamed for money stolen off the desk of an LSU School of Music employee. However, Craft says the real reason is that the school of music wanted to get a share of the of the athletic dollars that King oversaw for the marching band, Golden Girls and Color Guard, a move King strongly resisted.  Craft said that the termination has King considering suing the school he loves so much.
