The New Orleans Saints made a HUGE gamble on Marcus Davenport in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Saints traded two first round picks, and a fifth round pick to the Green Bay Packers to get the pick to take Davenport at the fourteenth overall pick. One of those first round picks came out of the 2019 draft, meaning the Saints were ready to mortgage the 2019 draft for Davenport.

But his 2018 season did not work out the way you would hope if you were giving up two NFL drafts for a player.

Saints rookie pass rusher Marcus Davenport is still recovering from surgery. He posted a picture on social media that shows him in the hospital and his right foot his heavily bandaged. Davenport wrote he played through a 'season ending' injury, and promises to come back better.

We did know that Davenport suffered a toe injury during the season, but wasn’t on the injury report during the final weeks of the regular season or postseason. Technically because he continued to play, the injury wasn't actually 'season ending', but we think he's inferring that for other players it would have been the end of their season.

Hopefully Davenport will return at full strength in time for off-season workouts. The Saints would really like to see if he truly was worth two drafts.
