Very soon you will be able to drive from Sam’s Club parking lot to Target and other stores in the complex, without having to get back onto bustling Youree Drive

When Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover took office in 2006, this was listed as one of his top 5 priorities.  Now, construction is underway to connect the two shopping meccas together, by pavement.

Motorists who frequent both shopping strip centers are certainly ready for it too.  The sheer headache of trying to get back onto Youree Drive, just to have to deal with it again when leaving the next strip center, has proven to be a daunting task some are unwilling to undertake.

There is a makeshift dirt hill near the fronts of the buildings that many people are seen climbing down into, then over to get between the two stores, but this can only be done on foot and is not an actual crosswalk.

The $40,000 project began last week and is expected to take up to three weeks to complete.  $10,000 of that money is yours; taxpayer dollars.  About six months ago the city council, after much wrangling, approved the money to go toward covering the cost of 25% of its total pricetag.

The remaining $30,000 is being split evenly between two corporations and University Place shopping center.
