Fresh vegetables and fruits….breads, cookies….grass fed beef, lamb, seafood… honey…. peanut butters…eggs - the list of delights goes on and on as friends, families, and foodies welcome the opening day of the second annual Benton Farmers’ Market.

Opening day is set for May 31 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. and continuing every Sunday afternoon rain or shine through July 26th.  Located at Simpson Street Park at 495 Simpson behind the Bossier Parish School Board office with plenty of free parking – just follow the signs.

In addition to the traditional farmers market faire, including a large variety of lunch foods to tempt everyone’s taste buds, the market will also include weekly special events such as cooking demos on how to use fresh, nutritious, and locally raised foods and special events for the kids such as story time, cow train rides, honey bee displays and of course the park’s playground!

New to the market this year – knife sharpening, stone ground corn meal, vintage crafts including repurposed, upcycled jewelry and rustic décor, dog treats made from local ingredients, cajun seasonings and BBQ rubs/injections.

Improvements to the park include new asphalt paths, trees donated and planted by Cypress Area Garden Club, additional parking access, and a fenced playground.

“We’re looking forward to another successful season at the market,” said Ellan Cathcart, Market Manager.  “It’s a great place to be on a Sunday afternoon after church with friends and neighbors from far and wide who love good food, local produce, good music and special homemade delicasies.”
