Look, all things being equal, I really didn’t mind Jared Leto’s take on the Joker in Suicide Squad. Yes, the constant news items about what latest “crazy” thing he did to get in character were pretty annoying, and yes, the number of people who seem to think that Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship is something to emulate is downright disturbing, but Leto seemed like a perfect fit for the gloomy and angst-ridden universe that Warner Bros. has created for its DC Comics characters. At another studio, he’d be woefully out of place. In this one? He’s fine.

Of course, when I say “fine,” I really didn’t mean “start the entire Jared Leto hype cycle up all over again” fine, but here we are. Warner Bros. has released their latest television spot for the Suicide Squad extended edition DVD (via Heroic Hollywood), and because there’s two or three seconds of Jared Leto saying something that wasn’t in the movie, we all have to plunge back into the Suicide Squad rumor mill. For my own part, I will admit that I’m mildly curious as to what footage was left out of David Ayer’s version of the film, and that means I am slightly more likely to watch the Suicide Squad extended cut than I was the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cut. That’s about as much as I’ve got for you.

Miss Suicide Squad in theaters? Completely clueless as to why people have been fighting over this movie for months? I may envy your ignorance, but it’s also my job to bring you back up to speed, so here’s the official plot synopsis for Suicide Squad:

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity.

U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren't picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it's every man for himself?

The Suicide Squad extended cut will be available on digital HD November 15 and on Blu-ray and DVD December 13.
