Shreveport-Bossier City Hotel-Motel Tax Falls Short

A year ago, a tax went into effect that promised to raise one point eight million dollars.  the much needed money would be divided among three different entities.  The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, the ArkLaTex Regional Air Service Alliance and the Independence Bowl Foundation each received about five-hundred thousands dollars.  That's about three-hundred thousand less than officials hoped the levy would raise.

That's not to say that the experiment has been a failure at all! Funds collected over the last year have allowed expansion of Independence Bowl festivities, plus - the addition of a parade and the creation of last week's Shreveport- Bossier Holiday Classic.

Some local schools have been given the opportunity to play in larger venues because of the programs brought about by the tax.  Some have even played in the Century-Link Center.  I remember as a younger man the thrill you would get by getting the chance to perform in a venue like that.  It was amazing!
