The Fit for Life Sports Weekend returns to the Shreveport Convention Center Saturday as a way to encourage local residents to be more active.

If you like big muscles, you'll love the Optimum Classic Championships, where more than 150 bodybuilders will compete for top prizes. Athletes from North and South America, Argentina, Italy, Brazil, Russia, England and other countries will be in town to compete.

Tickets to that event start at $35 and VIPs are $50. Doors open for the event at 6 p.m. Saturday. You can get those through Ticketmaster in advance or at the Convention Center box office.

Going on from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. is the Fit for Live Expo, featuring fitness activities on the Fitness Is Fun stage. Be sure to dress comfortably for exercise. There's even a Kids Obstacle Course for the young visitors. Admission is $5, with children under 5 getting in free.

Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. is Prejudging for the IFBB and NPC bodybuilding competitions as part of the Optimum Classic Championships. Tickets for that are $25. Saturday night starting at 6, it's 'A Dragon's Tale,' a Mixed Martial Arts event on one end of the convention center. Tickts for that are also $25.

Several sports and fitness activities are also taking place at Cargill Park and Southern Hills.

Expo organizer Robert "Super-Mann" Blount says this event was created to build a healthier Louisiana.

"What we've done is comprised all of these great events throughout the city of Shreveport to bring about a consciousness and awareness of being fit and healthy in the state of Louisiana," Blount said. "So we've got sporting events and fun events for everybody...the entire family."
