Every year, in every school zone in America, police turn up the "heat" in order to remind folks that have gotten used to driving through inactive school zones at (or above) regularly posted speed limits.  The time for the Shreveport Police to initiate their push for calmer traffic around schools has come.  SPD officers are already posted at key points around the school zones to help you be aware of the reduced speed limits with "friendly reminders."

On the first day of school for Caddo Parish, KSLA reports that 39 drivers were ticketed for speeding, with some law-breakers exceeding 60 miles an hour in a 35 mile an hour zone! The hope is that the increased police presence (and steeper fines) will be enough to remind motorists to slow down and be cautious in the areas where kids are most likely to be crossing the streets on their way to and from school.
