Bossier City police have arrested a Shreveport woman in connection with a wreck last year that claimed the life of her son.

Police say 25-year-old Quirtisha Allen turned herself in this morning following a three-month investigation into the September 20 crash at Benton and Brownlee Roads in Bossier. Allen's son, 6-year-old Serdario Thomas, Jr., was riding in the front passenger's seat of his mother's car and wasn't properly restrained at the time of the crash.

Allen's Ford Focus was headed northbound on Benton Road, when it collided with a Ford Mustang that was attempting to turn left onto Brownlee from southbound Benton.

Investigators consulted with the Bossier Parish District Attorney's Office before securing an arrest warrant for Allen. Police were able to access data from the Sensing Diagnostic Module in Allen's vehicle, which indicated she was driving at a high rate of speed just before the wreck. That, combined with Allen's failure to place her son in a safety restraint, led to a negligent homicide charged against her.

Allen was booked into the Bossier City Jail, then transferred to Bossier Max. Her bond is set at $45,000.
