In January, we took it upon ourselves to find out which Mardi Gras krewe in Shreveport-Bossier City was the most popular. In 2013, the Krewe of Harambee took top honors. So who won in 2014?

Big congrats 'geaux' out to the Animal krewe, the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux! Barkus and Meoux won with a resounding 44 percent of the vote. We also have to congratulate the Krewe of Harambee, who came in second this year hot on the heels of their first place finish in 2013.

The Barkus and Meoux's parade Grand Marshal Mr. Kippers reached out to us today to express his gratitude for the big win. (Yes, he was the first-ever dog Grand Marshal, and yes, he apparently can write emails.)

"My friends and I had a really great time with your poll. Rescue pals all over the world voted," Mr. Kippers wrote. "We are elated that we won best krewe of 2014 because I am the first animal Grand Marshal and that was a very special milestone for animals!"

Just in case you're interested, there were just shy of 38,000 votes cast in this year's poll. Amazing!

For the record, we think you're all tops! Let the good times roll, and happy Mardi Gras!
