Shreveport's Sam Burns shot a 1-over-par 71 at Detroit's Oakland Hills golf course Tuesday morning to advance from medal to match play at the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship.

The LSU sophomore's two round score put him in the top 25 of the 300-plus player field, and he now advances to the 64-man match play competition beginning Wednesday.

Fellow Shreveporter Philip Barbaree Jr., fired a second round 74 and missed the cut with a two-day-total of 147.
