There is no question that getting a good nights sleep can do you a world of good, but it could also help you keep off unwanted pounds. The researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota have evidence that shows that people that get six hours or less shuteye a night are prone to be obese. Researchers found that people who slept less took in more calories and were less active than those that were more rested.

Two groups were set up for this study. Durning an eight day time frame, one group of volunteers slept normally and the second group was awoken after getting only two-thirds of their usual sleep.

Both groups were allowed to eat as much as they wanted. It turns out that the sleep deprived group ate on average 549 more calories that the more rested group.

If that wasn't bad enough, the sleep deprived group didn't burn off the additional calories and therefore more apt to put on weight.

So, if you want to help keep off extra pounds just get some extra sleep! That is my kinda diet.
