Have you ever tried to construct a shelter out of nothing but cardboard boxes, string and tape? Hundreds of locals will be doing that to help raise awareness of our area's homelessness problem, and to generate funds for Providence House. The non-profit's Tracy Locke says the facility serves homeless families with children.

"We serve up to about 250 people a day," Locke says. "There are 4,500 people homeless in the Shreveport-Bossier area. So if you do that math, you can see how many people we cannot get to and help."

Locke says that's the purpose of Sleepout 4 Independence, which takes place at Independence Stadium November 16th. The goal is to raise $200,000 to help Providence House serve more families. Locke says there's space for 700 people to get registered for the event.

"We're gonna have midnight movies and we're gonna have snacks, we're gonna have fun and activities, we've got some great hosts on the stage," Locke says. "So it's just going to be a mission trip on a field for one night for our community."

Anyone is welcome to be part of this, but those under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult or team sponsor. This event is being held in conjunction with National Homeless Awareness Month. CLICK HERE to get registered, or to get more details.
