Stage Center’s Next Production Takes Us ‘Into The Woods’

Stage Center, the theatre company who most recently featured "Disney's The Little Mermaid," is now bringing an American musical classic to the Shreveport Stage with Stephen Sondheim's "Into The Woods."

The third in our ‘Great American Musicals’ series, Into the Woods is the official production commemorating our fifth anniversary, and is now a major motion picture from Disney! James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic. The TONY® Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. INTO THE WOODS is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

In addition to this main-stage performance, Stage Center's School Of Performing Arts will be performing a scaled down version of the musical with "Into The Woods, Jr."

Our School of Performing Arts Summer Acting Intensive for Teens is a two-week camp where students ages 12 and up cultivate and hone skills in acting, singing, and dancing. They will perform a 60-minute Junior version of Into the Woods as the performance component of this training session, with direction by Hollis Scarborough, and musical direction by Missy Wise.
